Broadcast

The broadcast industry is slowly migrating from copper cables to video and audio-over-fiber, particularly in outside broadcast applications. Optical fiber is small in diameter and very lightweight compared to coaxial cable. The ViaLite RF-over-Fiber product range is designed to offer leading edge RF performance combined with innovative and flexible solutions for the broadcast industry. ViaLite addresses customer needs in a variety of broadcast applications including:

The broadcast industry places great demands on its equipment. Products have to be rapidly deployable, high performance, very reliable and always available. ViaLite video and audio-over-fiber links are designed to be used with little or no previous knowledge of optical fiber technology and are used extensively in outside broadcast as well as fixed installations. ViaLite products use the rugged and reliable Lemo K series fiber optic connector, the electrical version of this connector is already used widely within the broadcast industry.

Vialite in Sports Events

Coverage of live events like motor racing or other sports is a common application for ViaLite. In such events broadcasters transmit video and/or audio over fiber with at least quad diversity, four or more receiver sites that comprise antennas and down-converters to receive transmission from the wireless cameras. These remote sites form a mesh network of coverage but can be several hundred metres away from the OB control truck which is beyond the scope of copper based connections. ViaLite is used to relay live content back to the OB hub over optical fiber from these diversity receivers. In the OB truck, the ViaLite optical receivers convert the media back to RF video/audio which is then fed to the editing suite.
